COURSE OVERVIEW

This course is designed to equip you with the skills required to safely inspect, maintain and operate breathing apparatus. This course provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills required to safely use and operate respiratory protective equipment.

COURSE OUTCOMES

Successful participants will be able to accurately check, test and use breathing apparatus in hazardous atmospheres to AS1715 and 1716.
Specific topics include:

  • Legislative requirements for use of breathing apparatus
  • Components of breathing apparatus
  • Donning and removal of breathing apparatus
  • Working safely and within the limitations of breathing apparatus
  • Relevant procedures, including emergency and entrapment procedures
  • Low and high pressure tests
  • Cleaning and maintenance procedures

ON-SITE DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS

Participants must wear site approved work wear and PPE. For delivery at a client site
the following must be provided to meet the outcomes of the course:

  • Suitable classroom area
  • At least one BA set per two participants
  • Spare charged air cylinders
  • Servicing/washing facilities for BA sets

all personnel required to wear respiratory protective equipment because they are working in a confined space or an irrespirable atmosphere.

Pre-Requisites
Working knowledge and confined space procedures, and the language, literacy and numeracy competence to:

  • Interpret any permits or other documentation associated with the wearing of breathing apparatus for the job
  • Complete the required workplace reports
  • Determine the available working time from a breathing apparatus set and similar activities
